Visual Art Class Descriptions
*not all classes are offered each semester*
Sketchbook and Drawing: Students will learn how to visually record their lives and their creativity through the use of a sketchbook. Basic drawing skills and techniques will be taught through various exercises. The goals of this class are to become better at drawing as well as exploring creativity. It is recommended that students have their own sketchbook
Painting: Students will learn the fundamentals of painting. Lessons will include color theory and basic techniques such as layering and highlighting. Students will learn to break down objects to simple forms then build in details. This class will provide the knowledge and confidence to tackle painting; learning will take place through use of demonstrations, guidance, and class exercises
Creating Comic Books: Students will explore the art of cartooning by creating shapes, characters, and figures that have a "cartoon" feel. Students will learn a wide variety of skills in each class, with subjects ranging from character design to storyboarding to creating their own mini-comics. All students will complete a fun project
Multi-Media Technique: Students will explore various mediums throughout the course of the session; from drawing, to painting, to 3D modeling, to working with clay....students will discover their own creativity and expression through an array of medium studies
Illustrations: Illustration is everywhere... from advertisements, to video games, to storybooks. This class focuses on drawing and painting scenes, stories, characters, and other fun projects that everyday illustrators work on
Hands On Art: This hands-on class will explore art through the use of our hands and is perfect for kinesthetic and tactile learners. Sponging, finger painting, and hand mixing are just a few of the topics that will be 'touched' on!
Creative Buffet: Our youngest artists will enjoy this multi-media class; hands-on projects will allow the independent exploration of age-appropriate art materials: painting, gluing/cutting/collage, and working with clay/dough will allow students to explore art with a wide variety of materials and techniques
Art History: Travel throughout the ages from cavemen to modern artwork to experience and explore how art has changed over time. Each class will get a bit of a history lesson, as well as some hands on experience in each era of art study
Masterpiece Workshop: This once-a-month specialty workshop is designed to teach the basic skills of painting in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. It guides students step-by-step through creating their own amazing painting. A different picture will be painted at each workshop so register for as many as you would like.
